  • School Workshops

Releasing Rhythms offers day long, half day or hourly workshops in schools where every child in the group (of up to approx. 30) will be provided with an African instrument. Activities can be related to many areas of the curriculum giving children the opportunity to learn new rhythms and traditional African songs and chants to accompany their drumming and music making. Not only will they focus on their playing skills improving fine and gross motor skills, but they will be cooperating as a member of a team, teaching responsibility and respect, and it will also allow them to experience the power of effective contribution. Activities will focus on listening skills, promote self confidence and self esteem, increase awareness and appreciation of other people and cultures, enhance interest in learning, improve academic performance and energise the school environment.

Community groups/youth clubs/birthday parties

Group drumming can hugely benefit the interaction between members of any group, to quote Arthur Hull (pioneer of facilitated rhythm based events):-

'When a group of people who are of common mind and purpose come together and harmonize with each other through song, music and percussion, they create a synergised force that solidifies the group vision and purpose.'

Activities can be tailored to suit the needs of specific groups.

Drum Circles

A Drum Circle is a group of people, from infants to pensioners of any background or culture, who come together to make 'in the moment' music on drums and hand percussion instruments. There is no audience as everyone is a participant and no musical knowledge or skill is required. All participants are equal and through rhythm are making a connection and communicating at a level which they may not even realise. Participants are not learning from a teacher, but are facilitated by a facilitator, on a musical journey of repetitive improvised rhythms. Sustaining a repetitive rhythm is known as rhythmic entrainment which has a calming effect on the physical body and an energising up lifting effect on the spirit, which in turn achieves a higher state of community and individual  expression.

Upcoming events to be posted in due course.
